MIDSUMMER MOZARTIADE
Amadeus & Co is a non-profit association working to promote Mozart's operas and emerging opera talent. We bring quality opera productions to a wide range of audiences in Brussels, Wallonia and beyond. To implement our project, we have chosen to work with partners who share these same values.
OUR STORY
In 1763, the seven-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, spent six weeks in Brussels, as part of his first European tour. During that stay, he and his sister performed at the court of Charles of Lorraine. In 2015, this historic episode inspired three opera professionals (a conductor, a stage director and a singer) to form their own Brussels-based initiative in his name (Amadeus & Co). In 2016, they inaugurated a new festival (Midsummer Mozartiade). Every summer since, this platform has brought together emerging opera singers (Belgian and international) and a wide range of audiences (in Brussels, Mons and Namur) to celebrate Mozart's masterpieces. It also aims to promote the Brussels Region not only as a capital with a Mozartian past (on a par with Vienna, Prague, London and Paris), but also as a dynamic centre of operatic creativity. Each festival edition features a fully staged opera production alongside a second main stage event (such as a gala concert). To ensure greater accessibility for all types of audiences, these two elements are complemented by free events (such as performances in public spaces) and outreach activities (such as discovery days and lectures). Nine editions later, the Festival is firmly anchored in the heart of Brussels and increasingly recognised as an effective springboard for rising opera talent. |

Together with all those who support us, we have managed to make a significant difference in the careers – as well as in the lives – of a number of exceptionally talented young artists. In the words of Paris-based artistic agent Magali Arnaud: 'I first became familiar with the festival in 2017 and have attended almost every production in Brussels since. I have witnessed several singers from my agency take on extremely challenging roles there early on in their careers. I have seen just how much these productions help them evolve and arm themselves for the profession of opera singer. The artistic team is of the highest calibre, and the singers benefit from rigorous musical coaching and remarkable stage preparation. I have always been impressed by the high quality of the opera productions and the professionalism of the festival team.’ |
